Getting Started

Quick Start in 4 Steps

Enter your script

Open the "Script & Teleprompter" section and paste or type your presentation script

Set your timer duration

Choose a preset (1m, 3m, 5m) or click "Custom Settings" for more options

Click "Start Full Presentation" to begin the timer and display your script

Use the arrow buttons or keyboard arrows to advance through your script lines

Using on Smartphone

Mobile Quick Start

FocusCue is optimized for touch screens. Here's how to use it on your phone:

Enter your script

Tap the "Script & Teleprompter" section to expand it and paste your text

Select timer duration

Tap one of the preset buttons (1m, 3m, 5m)

Tap "Start Full Presentation"

This starts the timer and displays your teleprompter

Use the arrow buttons to navigate

Tap and buttons at the bottom to move through your script

Tap "Stop" when finished

The red Stop button is at the bottom left of your screen

Touch Controls

On smartphones, navigation buttons appear at the bottom for easy thumb access:

  • ← Button - Previous line
  • → Button - Next line
  • Stop - End presentation (bottom left)

Mobile Tips

  • No keyboard shortcuts on mobile - use touch buttons
  • Hold phone in portrait mode for best experience
  • Increase font size if text is hard to read
  • Your script saves automatically

Timer Controls

Duration Presets

Quick-select buttons for common presentation lengths:

  • 1m One minute countdown
  • 3m Three minute countdown
  • 5m Five minute countdown (free limit)

Pro users get unlimited duration

Color Thresholds

The timer changes color to help you pace your presentation:

  • Green - Plenty of time remaining
  • Amber - Warning threshold reached
  • Red - Panic threshold - wrap up!

Custom Settings

Click "Custom Settings" to access advanced timer options:

  • Set exact duration in minutes and seconds
  • Adjust warning threshold (when timer turns amber)
  • Adjust panic threshold (when timer turns red)

Teleprompter

Step Mode

Navigate your script one line at a time:

  • Current line is highlighted
  • Use arrow buttons or keyboard to advance
  • Perfect for scripted presentations
  • Automatically centers current line

Auto-Scroll Mode

Continuous scrolling for smoother reading:

  • Adjustable scroll speed
  • Manual position adjustment with arrows
  • Great for longer presentations
  • Natural reading flow

Script Management

  • Your script is automatically saved in your browser
  • Adjust font size with the slider for comfortable reading
  • Use "Reset" to return to the beginning
  • Use "New" to clear and start fresh

Visual Elements

Focus Dot

A small red dot to help you maintain eye contact with your camera:

  • Position: Adjust X and Y position to place near your camera lens
  • Size: Adjust the dot size for visibility
  • Opacity: Make it subtle or more visible
  • Color: Default red, but customizable

Tip: Position the dot near your webcam so you naturally look at the camera while reading

OBS Integration

Adding FocusCue as Browser Source

  1. 1 In OBS, click the + under Sources and select Browser
  2. 2 Enter the overlay URL (shown in the "For Streaming (OBS)" section of the app)
  3. 3 Set dimensions to match your canvas (e.g., 1920x1080)
  4. 4 Enable "Shutdown source when not visible" and "Refresh browser when scene becomes active"

Overlay URL Parameters

The overlay URL includes customizable parameters:

  • duration - Timer duration in seconds
  • warn - Warning threshold in seconds
  • panic - Panic threshold in seconds
  • dot - Focus dot size in pixels
  • opacity - Overlay opacity (0-1)

These shortcuts work when the app window is focused (tablet and desktop):

Timer Controls

  • Start / Stop timer Space
  • Reset timer R
  • Toggle overlay F8

Teleprompter Navigation

  • Next line or N
  • Previous line or P

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the timer limited to 5 minutes?

The free version has a 5-minute limit. Upgrade to Pro for just $12/£12 (one-time payment) to unlock unlimited timer duration.

How do I activate Pro after purchase?

After purchasing, you'll receive a license key via email. To activate:

  1. Check your email for your license key (format: FOCUS-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX)
  2. In the app, click the "Free" badge in the top-right corner
  3. Select "I have a license key"
  4. Enter your license key and click Activate

Your Pro status is saved in your browser. If you use a different browser or device, simply enter your license key again.

I lost my license key. How do I recover it?

No problem! You can recover your license key:

  1. Click the "Free" badge in the app
  2. Select "I have a license key"
  3. Click "Lost your key?"
  4. Enter the email address you used when purchasing
  5. We'll resend your license key to that email
Is my script saved?

Yes! Your script is automatically saved in your browser's local storage. It will be there when you return, even after closing the browser. Note: Clearing browser data will remove saved scripts.

Can I use FocusCue on my phone?

Yes! FocusCue is fully responsive and works on smartphones and tablets. The interface automatically adapts for touch screens with larger buttons at the bottom for easy thumb access.

Does it work offline?

The app needs to be loaded initially from the internet, but once loaded, the timer and teleprompter work without an active connection. Your settings are stored locally in your browser.
